Fugitive SA Advocate Dirk Prinsloo located in Lithuania, fights deportation
Nearly two decades after fleeing South Africa, disgraced former advocate Dirk Prinsloo has been traced to Lithuania, where he is now resisting efforts to have him deported to face justice back home.
Prinsloo, who skipped bail in 2006 while facing 15 charges related to child pornography and sexual abuse, initially resurfaced in Belarus. There, he served a 13-year prison sentence for an unrelated robbery conviction and was later released on parole.
Lithuanian authorities have since moved to deport him, but Prinsloo is contesting the process, citing fears of an unfair trial in South Africa. The lack of an extradition treaty between the two nations further complicates the legal tug-of-war.
South African officials, working alongside international counterparts, continue to push for his return to stand trial. The high-profile case remains under scrutiny as legal proceedings in Lithuania unfold.
