Media Statement GAUTENG – The National Head of the Directorate for Priority Crime Investigation (DPCI) Lieutenant General (Dr/Adv.) Godfrey Lebeya (SOEG) as of 01 July 2024, welcomed 240 newly entry level police constables who recently graduated from various South African Police Service academies across the country. These are some of the 10 000 trainees that were recruited in the past financial year 2023/2024. As part of the broader South African Police Service’s priorities to capacitate the Directorate for Priority Crime Investigation and Crime Intelligence, the National Commissioner upon the completion of the Basic Police Development Programme afforded the DPCI with 240 young, energetic, intelligent, physically fit and mentally fit people of all races and genders who are committed to serving the country entry level constables to increase capacity. These trainees were appointed fit for purpose and fourteen of them possess law/law enforcement qualification (12 possess Bachelor of Law and two possess ND: Policing). These trainees will greatly assist the DPCI and the country by strengthening efforts in combatting the national priority offences especially serious organised crime therefore instilling investor confidence in our economy. The newly appointed Constables have been distributed to the provinces as well as the National Office as investigators to enhance the execution of the DPCI mandate, vision and mission, as well as to promote and protect the basic human rights of the communities and the broader mission of the Service, which is to prevent and combat anything that may threaten the safety and security of any community. These newly appointed trainees will bring vigor and energy to uphold the law. Ends
