GAUTENG – A 24-year-old complainant was with her mother and her 7-year-old daughter on Saturday, 8 July 2021, at around 10:00. The 7-year-old girl was requested to accompany the complainant’s grandmother to her home. When the complainant asked her mother where her daughter was later in the day, at around 14:00, she said she spotted her playing in the neighbor’s house. The girl was later found, sexually assaulted, and managed to give a description of the suspect.
The case was registered at Devon SAPS.
On the other day, while the child was playing, she managed to recognize the suspect, who raped her passing on the street. She informed her mother, who knew the suspect as Tshepo Monamane. The girl’s mother accompanied the police to the man’s address on Saturday, 18 September 2021.
The Investigating officer Detective Sergeant Lephoto ensured that the accused stood trial before Nigel Magistrate’s Court where he was found guilty of rape and sentenced to 10 years imprisonment on 19 February 2025
Ekurhuleni District Commissioner Major General Anna Sithole has welcomed the conviction and encouraged other Detectives to put more efforts especially in Gender based violence cases. Ends
