Media Statement KIMBERLEY – The Deputy Minister of Police, Ms SP Boshielo, visited Kimberley and Galeshewe in the Northern Cape Province today to assess the state of readiness of the Safer Festive Season Operations. She was joined by the MEC for COGHSTA and Transport Safety and Liaison, Mr Bentley Vass, the Acting Deputy National Commissioner for Support Services, Lieutenant General Lineo Nkhuoa and the Northern Cape Provincial Commissioner, Lieutenant General Koliswa Otola. Deputy Minister Boshielo and her entourage were accompanied by Deputy Provincial Commissioners, District Commissioners, Provincial Heads, and senior officers at an operational parade to address the men and women in blue who are executing duties this festive season. In her address, Deputy Minister Boshielo pledged the support of the Ministry of Police. She encouraged members to protect and serve as it is enshrined in the Constitution. Thereafter, a briefing session was held during which the provincial profile and crime overview were presented. The delegation then participated in a roadblock on the N12 at the Shell Ultra City, where they engaged with motorists to create awareness regarding road safety. During the stop and search at the roadblock, eight undocumented foreign nationals were apprehended. Spaza shops in Galeshewe were visited to ascertain compliance. The visit concluded with an engagement with shoppers at the Diamond Pavilion Mall, where the SAPS Provincial Band welcomed the delegation and entertained shoppers. Disruptive actions will continue unabated in the province to address priority crimes, including alcohol and drug related crimes, crimes against women and children, property related crimes, and contact crimes.
