Meanwhile, the Deputy Minister, Ms Polly Boshielo acknowledged the critical role of the stakeholders in crime fighting initiatives as she broadly outlined the purpose of the stakeholders’ initiative. She urged the stakeholders to continue with the fruitful discussion with the police beyond the festive season and come up with implementable action plans to significantly reduce the crime rate in the province. This will ensure that they restore trust within the communities they serve.
The Deputy Minister further encouraged the Police officials to take charge against crime by arresting criminals without being biased. “The police must be confident that they are authorised by the constitution of this country to save lives, so they must never fear to take action when their lives and that of others are in danger. We cannot co-govern with criminals,” said Deputy Minister Boshielo.
