Media Statement CAPE TOWN – Vigilant members attached to Delft Crime Prevention Unit detained two adult males for possession and dealing in mandrax and the possession of an unlicensed firearm and ammunition on Saturday, 14 September 2024 respectively. The members were conducting stop and search operations and visible policing by patrolling in Bergbessie Street, Roosendal. They noticed a man standing in front of a known drug house throwing a bag which he had in his possession over the neighbour’s ’fence. SAPS members stopped the man, where after they retrieved the bag and upon inspection of the bag they discovered it contained 1030 mandrax tablets and 14 mandrax pieces including an unknown amount of powder. The mandrax have an estimated street value of about R41 200.00. The suspect was arrested and detained at Delft SAPS for charges of possession and dealing in mandrax. During the same operation, while patrolling in Palm Street, they noticed three suspicious looking males walking in the street. When the men saw the police vehicle approaching, they split up and ran. The members chased one of the men who appeared to be having something that resembles a firearm. They got hold of him and found a .38 Special revolver with one round in his possession. The suspect was arrested and detained at Delft SAPS. The firearm was handed in as an exhibit. Both suspects are due to appear in the Bellville Magistrate’s Court on Monday, 16 September 2024, on their respective charges. Ends
