POTCHEFSTROOM – Police were on Tuesday, 25 February 2025, alerted to a murder scene at a rubbish dumping site at Utlwanang Location, Christiana, where the badly decomposed body of a woman (47), alleged to have been burnt was found. According to first responders, the woman’s body was partially covered with a sheet, with her legs tied together. Furthermore, a burnt mattress and blankets were found next to the body. Initial investigations led to the identification of the victim and a 50-year-old man, reported to be her boyfriend was apprehended. He was charged with murder and will make first appearance in the Christiana Magistrates’ Court on Friday, 28 February 2025. The victim has since been identified by her family as Elizabeth Tukula (47), of Geluksoord in Christiana. Investigation into the matter continues. The Acting Provincial Commissioner of North West, Major General Patrick Asaneng thanked the police for their rapid response and subsequent apprehension of the Gender Based Violence (GBV) suspect.
