EAST LONDON – Police in the District arrested two suspects in separate crime prevention operations, leading to the recovery of an unlicensed firearm, ammunition, and drugs. The arrests took place in Mdantsane and East London policing precincts on Wednesday night, 29 January 2025. Inyibiba Crime Prevention members acted swiftly upon receiving information about a shooting incident within the Inyibiba policing precinct in NU 14, Mdantsane. Upon arrival at the scene, officers identified a 38-year-old male and, with his permission, conducted a search. This led to the discovery of an unlicensed firearm, one magazine, and live rounds of ammunition. The suspect was immediately arrested on charges of possession of an unlicensed firearm and possession of live ammunition. In a separate incident, East London Crime Prevention members conducted routine stop-and-search operations in Asher Street, Southernwood, East London. During their patrol, they encountered a 36-year-old male found in possession of 40 mandrax tablets and an undisclosed amount of money. The suspects are appearing at Mdantsane and East London Magistrate courts on Friday, 31 January 2025. Ends
