Crime prevention initiatives yield success in Delft

WESTERN CAPE – Police members in Delft determined to rid their community of firearms in the hands of criminals yielded success when they apprehended a suspect with a unlicensed firearm on Thursday evening.

Members of the Delft Crime Prevention Unit were busy with stop and search operations in the area due to ongoing gang violence and shootings when they approached a suspicious man walking in Delft Main Road. They searched the male who tried to evade police when he saw them approaching. The members found a 9mm pistol with ammunition in his possession. The 22-year-old was arrested for the illegal possession of a firearm and ammunition.

He will appear in the Bellville Magistrates’ Court on Monday, 03 June 2024.
