Court sentence accused to 15 years imprisonment for possession of firearm and ammunition

WESTERN CAPE – On 29 November 2024, the Mitchell’s Plain Regional court found 30 year old Kirk Daniels guilty for the illegal possession of a firearm and ammunition. The accused was caught with the firearm in Kardouw Street, Tafelsig on 18 May 2021 during crime prevention operations in the Mitchell’s Plain area to fight gang violence. The case was investigated by Detective Sergeant Bradley Schuur of the Anti-Gang Unit who proved to the court that the firearm was indeed found in Kirk’s possession.

On 13 February 2025, the accused was sentenced to an effective 10 years imprisonment for the possession of a firearm and five years for the illegal possession of ammunition. He will serve the five year and thereafter the 10 year sentence will start.

Western Cape police management welcomed the sentence and said the sentence should deter offenders of the law not to be in possession of unlicensed firearms.
