Media Statement WESTERN CAPE – The Hawks’ Asset Forfeiture Investigation in collaboration with the Director of Public Prosecutions’ Asset Forfeiture Unit secured a preservation order which was issued by the Western Cape division of the High Court on 27 March 2024 and received on 20 May 2024. During November 2022, information was received regarding a Hino truck that was transporting illegal abalone on N1 towards Cape Town. The information was operationalized and members of the Hawks teamed up with Crime Intelligence, Boland K9 Unit and Department of Fisheries, Forestry and the Environment. The truck was spotted on the N1 near Klapmuts when it was stopped and searched. It was loaded with large quantity of brown boxes that contained dried abalone to the value of R9 102 483. The truck which was used as an instrumentality to commit the offence was seized. Ends
