Media Statement MPUMALANGA – The Hawks’ Priority Crime Specialised Investigation Asset Forfeiture Investigation in collaboration with the Director of Public Prosecutions’ Asset Forfeiture Unit secured a preservation order on a white Toyota Single Cab LDV valued at R320 000. The order was issued by the Mpumalanga Division of the High Court of South Africa, Mbombela, on Monday, 24 March 2025. On 07 November 2024 members of SAPS Flying Squad unit were doing their normal patrol duties around R537 between Whiteriver and Sabie. Members noticed a Toyota bakkie that was driving at high-speed and not stopping at a stop sign. Members tried to stop the bakkie but the driver sped off. The bakkie was chased and finally members were able to stop it. It was searched and the following were found: one firearm (pistol) and emergency light. At the back, eleven rifles, two hand grenades, numerous handguns and various calibre of live ammunition were found. The accused was arrested and the bakkie and all exhibits were seized. The matter was referred to the Hawks Priority Crime Specialised Investigation for further handling. The matter was finalised and a preservation order was granted. Ends
