MPUMALANGA – A four year investigation led to the Hawks Middelburg based Serious Commercial Crime Investigation securing a warrant of arrest against three family members, a couple, and the husband’s sister. A 60-year-old Petrus Moyane was arrested alongside his 56-year-old wife, Nombeko Moyane and his 57-year old-sister, Nombulelo Moyane for allegedly misrepresenting their company, where they are all directors, when submitting Tax Returns for three consecutive years from the 2013 to 2015 financial years. The misrepresentation resulted in South African Revenue Service (SARS) suffering the actual loss of R641 672-25. The case was reported at Witbank SAPS in November 2020. The case docket was transferred to the Hawks for further investigation. The investigation led the team to successfully obtain a warrant of arrest that was executed on Friday, 14 February 2025. The trio made a brief court appearance where they were released on R5 000 bail each. The court warned them to appear before the same court in person on 07 March 2025.
The Mpumalanga Provincial Head of the Directorate for Priority Crime Investigation, Major General Nico Gerber, said the Hawks and SARS are working together to combat tax evasion and, fraudulant activities. “We are urging individuals and companies to comply with legal requirements and act with integrity when submitting returns,” concluded the General.
