Media Statement CAPE TOWN – The Western Cape Provincial Commissioner, Lt Gen (Adv.) Thembisile Patekile, welcomed the conviction and sentencing of John Davidson Alias Krummel and Ebrahiem Salie. On 13 July 2023 at about 07:15, the victim Janice Charles was on his way to work at Robert Sobukwe Road, Bellville South, when he was approached by the suspect John Davidson Alias Krummel. It is alleged that he pointed her with a firearm, pushed and threatened to shoot her to death and demanded her cellphone. She was forced to hand over the cellphone as she feared for her life. The suspect then ran away. Bellville South SAPS opened a case of robbery aggravated and was allocated to detective Sergeant Faizel Hercules. From the onset after receiving the case docket, the investigating officer fixed his attention on the outcome of his investigation which was to secure a commendable sentence to the crime committed. Detective Sergeant Hercules immediately began with his investigation and followed all leads, which ultimately resulted in the apprehension of the suspect. On Thursday 25 April 2024, the matter was heard in the Bellville Magistrates’ court and the suspect was sentenced to 15 years’ imprisonment of which six years’ were suspended for five years’. In an unrelated matter, on 09 January 2024 the complainant opened a case of domestic violence against her son Ebrahiem Salie when he abused her verbally by swearing and threatening to kill her. The investigating officer assigned to the case, Constable Xolile Ncaphanapha, pursued all leads available to ensure that the suspect is put behind bars. The investigating officer traced and arrested the accused. On 22 March 2024 the case was heard in the Wynberg Magistrates’ court where the suspect was found guilty of contravening section 17(a) of the act on Domestic Violence Act 117 of 1998. The suspect was sentenced to five years’ direct imprisonment. Ends
