WESTERN CAPE – Continued interventions to rid the streets of the Western Cape of the illegal possession of firearms that is the root cause of serious and violent crime yielded success when police members arrested suspects during weekend operations. On Saturday, 27 April 2024, members of the Anti-Gang Unit searched a premises in Stella Road, Tafelsig, Mitchell’s Plain after they received information about a firearm that is stored at a premises. While searching the premises the members found a .38 Special revolver with ammunition in the house. A 53-year-old man was arrested for the illegal possession of a firearm and ammunition. In an unrelated intervention, member of Malmesbury SAPS, Western Cape Liquor Authority, Traffic Services and Law Enforcement conducted an integrated operation in Malmesbury on Friday and searched a premises. The members confiscated an antique pistol of which the owner of the house could not produce a valid licence or permit to possess the firearm. A 48-year-old suspect was arrested for the illegal possession of a firearm. The suspects will make their respective court appearances in the Mitchell’s Plain and Malmesbury Magistrates’ courts today.
These operations will continue throughout the Western Cape in efforts to quell the scourge in gang related shootings and to create a safe and secure environment for all inhabitants in the province.
