Media Statement KWAZULU-NATAL – On Thursday, 27 March 2025, Mathuba Thuba Construction CC was convicted and fined R20 000-00 by the Pietermaritzburg Magistrate’s Court for fraud and contravention of the Tax Administration Act. Goodman Ndodenhle Mbanjwa (46) a sole director of Mathuba Thuba Construction CC, had allegedly submitted false Value Added Tax (VAT) returns for the period of November 2019, resulting in a loss and prejudice to the South African Revenue Services (SARS) amounting to R289 546-75. SARS conducted an internal audit and reported the matter to the police, which was referred to the Hawks members from Pietermaritzburg Serious Commercial Crime Investigation for further investigation. The accused and his company were arrested and charged with fraud and contravention of the Tax Administration Act in October 2024. After several court appearances, Mathuba Thuba Construction CC was ultimately convicted and fined, while the charges against Mbanjwa were withdrawn. The KwaZulu-Natal Directorate for Priority Crime Investigation Provincial Head, Major General (Dr) Lesetja Senona applauded the investigating team for the good work. Ends
