Media Statement GARDEN ROUTE DISTRICT – The combined efforts by various police resources deployed in the Garden Route District ensured that a total of 316 suspects find themselves behind bars for several offences. Crime combatting operations included the closing down of drug and unlicensed liquor outlets, stop and search operations, vehicle check points as well as high density patrols in crime hotspot areas. The integrated forces arrested 80 suspects for drug related offences, 46 for possession of dangerous weapons, one for unlawful possession of ammunition, 20 undocumented persons and the other for minor offences. Most of the arrests were executed in George, Oudtshoorn, Pacaltsdorp and Knysna. On Friday, 07 June 2024, Kwanokuthula police members accosted a premises situated in Angola Street, Kwanokuthula in response to information received from the public. The members, armed with a search warrant, proceeded with a search of the house and found 38 .38 Special rounds of ammunition in a safe. The occupant was unable to provide a licence for the ammunition. The 38 rounds of ammunition were confiscated, leading to the arrest of the 50-year-old suspect for unlawful possession of ammunition. Later the same day (07 June 2024), the team pounced on a residence at Phase 5, Kwanokuthula where they confiscated a small quantity of cocaine. They arrested a 49-year-old man on a charge of possession of drugs. Furthermore, on Sunday, 09 June 2024, the team conducted patrols in Kranshoek near Plettenberg Bay when they noticed a suspicious person. They approached the man and upon searching him, members found 22 tik straws, nine halves and 15 quarters Mandrax tablets in his possession. The members confiscated the drugs and arrested the 27-year-old man for his unlawful possession of the drugs. Meanwhile, last night 09 June 2024, Garden Route District Crime Combatting Team members conducted operations in Thembalethu during which they arrested 10 suspects for possession of dangerous weapons and drugs. Drugs with an estimated street value of R13 500 were confiscated during this operation. All those arrested are expected to make their court appearances in the respective courts during this week. These arrests and confiscations forms part of concerted efforts by police to safeguard communities. Ends
