Media Statement WELKOM – Members from the Welkom K9 unit received information about a foreign national male who is distributing illicit cigarettes using a white Toyota Camry. Information was operationalised on Friday, 27 September 2024, by SAPS together with SARS Customs. It is further reported that the cigarettes were stored in different storage units at Cedar Park Centre in Welkom. The team conducted a search at the units where 787 boxes of illicit cigarettes valued at R7 083 000-00 million, a DVR hard drive and an invoice book were found and seized. Two male suspects, aged 32 and 29, were arrested for possession of illicit cigarettes and will appear in court soon. Ends
