Amidst his apparent disappearance, there have been series of recordings featuring telephone conversations between the Director of the Monrovia City Police and several individuals in the United States, including Cllr. Jerome Verdier and Sheik Sackor.
According to a FrontPageAfrica report, these individuals appear to be pressuring the Director to make statements against the Mayor of Monrovia, Jefferson Koijee, in exchange for their assistance in securing his permanent stay in the United States through asylum.
Report had it that the Monrovia City Police Director, Thomas Garwo, left Liberia in April for a Christian Leaders Fellowship conference held in Atlanta, Georgia from April 10 to April 16, 2023.
Accordingly, prior to his departure, he wrote Mayor Koijee through the Director of Internal Operations, Cain Prince Andrews, seeking financial assistance to purchase his plane ticket to make the trip. This document contradicts media reports that he was invited to the United States by the U.S. government to testify against Koijee.
On the recordings are voices of former TRC Commissioner Jerome Verdier, Owner of Spoon Network and indicted felon Stanton Witherspoon, dismissed NSA Agent Sheik Sackor, dismissed Deputy LIGIS Director Alex Williams, dismissed Deputy Information Minister Eugene Fahngon, and MCC Police Director Thomas Garwo.
In the recordings, the men in conversation with Director Garwo concocted a plan to issue the MCC Police Chief an asylum if he revealed sensitive and false information on the Mayor of Monrovia, Jefferson Koijee.
Verdier and co-conspirators’ key intent, as per the recording, is to have an insider make confessions that would corroborate a series of wild and yet-to-be-proven allegations they have made against Koijee and other officials of the Weah-led government.
Verdier is also heard in the recording offering to assist Garwo in obtaining asylum by helping him work on his papers once he was done making statements against his boss as well as also encouraged Garwo to resign his post and even offered to write the resignation letter on his behalf, which he did and shared with Sheik Sackor for approval.
In the audio, Witherspoon and Sackor, who have a long-standing beef with President Weah, promised to send Garwo’s wife US$10,000 for her to leave Liberia for her safety because of the false confessions he was about to make.
However, Garwo, as heard in the audio, didn’t see the commitment made by the men coming forth so he was hesitant to sign any document as they were compelling him to do so.
Alex Williams is also heard in one of the telephone conversations encouraging Garwo to just abide by Sackor’s request and be patient as it was the surest way of him getting to remain in the States by means of asylum.
The making up of false stories and citing safety and security concerns by Liberians overstaying their visas in the United States has become a common practice by most of them who intend to stay in the United States permanently.
By their actions, the US Immigration gets misled into providing asylum to individuals who have given false and unverified information or basically distorted facts by Cllr. Jerome Verdier.
As part of the false plan, the team managed to have Director Garwo link the Mayor to happenings at the home of the Former Chief Justice Gloria Musu Scott – an allegation earlier made by Verdier and found to be unsubstantiated by the Liberia National Police after the Mayor turned himself in for investigation.
This false plan by Jerome Verdier and others comes on the heels of a massive pronouncement on SPOONTV that the Monrovia City Mayor had everything to do with what happened at the home of the former Chief Justice.
Jerome Verdier, it can be recalled, has been on a character assassination spree of Mayor Koijee as far back as the beginning of the government. He has linked Mayor Koijee to being a Child Soldier, link to an affair with his ex wife and many other issues that have since been sufficiently debunked by many.
