Clamp down on drug outlets by the Garden Route District Crime Combatting Team leads to three arrests in Knysna

GARDEN ROUTE DISTRICT – A clamp down operation on drug outlets has led to the arrest of three suspects following the execution of search and seizure warrants during focused operations by the Garden Route District Crime Combatting Team (GRDCCT) deployed in Knysna.

On Thursday, 27 June 2024 at about 07:00 the team embarked on an operation at a house at Thula Street, White Location. A search of the premises ensued when the members found a small black bag with mandrax tablets concealed in the bathroom. The police confiscated 504 mandrax tablets and arrested a Nigerian man (43) on a charge of dealing in drugs.

Later the same day, on 27 June 2024 at about 07:30, the team operationalised another search and seizure warrant when they pounced on a house at Concordia, Knysna. The members found 235 mandrax tablets at the residence. They confiscated the drugs and arrested a 35-year-old Nigerian national and a 23-year-old woman on a charge of dealing in drugs each.

In Mossel Bay, Kwanonqaba Crime Prevention Unit operationalised information when they arrested two suspects after dealing in drugs and possession of drugs. The vigilant members confiscated small quantities of tik, heroin and mandrax tablets found in possession of the pair. They are facing charges of dealing in drugs and possession of drugs.

On Wednesday, 26 June 2024, GRDCCT members conducted midweek operations at Pacaltsdorp, George on Wednesday, 26 June 2024, where they arrested five suspects on drug related offences, two for possession of dangerous weapons and one suspect wanted on outstanding warrants of arrest. Small quantities of tik and mandrax as well as a panga were confiscated during the operation.

All arrested will make their court appearances in the respective courts once charged.

These operations under “Operation Shanela” form part of concerted efforts of police to rid communities of drugs and to ultimately eradicate substance abuse.
