NORTHERN CAPE – Build up activities to celebrate National Women’s Day concluded on a high note today with a church service filled with song and praise. The service was attended by senior female government officials, including, the Minister of the Department of Women, Youth and Persons with Disabilities, Ms Sindisiwe Chikunga, the MEC for Social Development, Youth, Women and People Living with Disabilities and Sports, Arts and Culture, Ms Nontobeko Vilakazi, the Northern Cape Provincial Commissioner, Lieutenant General Koliswa Otola and other heads and representatives of entities and government departments. In her address, Lieutenant General Otola emphasised the turning of the tide of violence committed against women, children, and vulnerable groups. She urged victims of gender based violence to break the silence and to report perpetrators. “We must stand very closely together as a society and say NO to violence against women and children and report all forms of violence”, Lieutenant General Otola said. She acknowledged the achievements and contributions made by the women in blue, especially the women in law enforcement in the Namakwa District after the successful execution of Operation Basadi in the district. Operations and activities will continue throughout the month of August in acknowledgment of Women’s Month. Ends
