The South African Church Defenders (SACD) hold a press conference responding to the CRL Rights Commission Section 22 Ad Hoc Committee Draft Self-Regulatory Framework for the Christian sector.
The framework, released on 19 December 2025, has sparked public debate, with SACD being characterised as part of a so-called pushback against the proposal. During the briefing, SACD sets out to place its objections on record, clarify its official position, and address what it describes as public misinformation arising from remarks made during a recent CRL media briefing.
According to SACD, statements made by the CRL Chairperson regarding an ongoing court matter involving the organisation are untrue and misrepresent the issues before the court. The organisation says the press conference aims to correct these impressions without prejudicing pending legal proceedings.
SACD further outlines constitutional, governance, and process-related concerns about both the content of the draft framework and how it has been introduced, while engaging openly with the media on matters of public interest.
