Chiefs unveil makeshift defence for Siwelele clash
Kaizer Chiefs have named their starting XI for Sunday’s Betway Premiership clash against Siwelele, with coach Fernando Da Cruz forced into a major reshuffle at left-back because of a mounting injury crisis.
Amakhosi head into their fifth league match of the season without any of their four recognised left-back options available.
Bradley Cross, Nkanyiso Shinga, Paseka Mako and Rushwin Dortely are all recovering from injuries, leaving Da Cruz with limited options for the crucial encounter at Dobsonville Stadium.
The coach has responded by deploying Thabo Moloisane at left-back, despite the player being naturally right-footed and primarily a centre-back. Moloisane previously featured at left-back for Chiefs when the club faced a similar defensive crisis earlier this season.
Reeve Frosler, who can operate on the left despite being naturally right-footed, has also not reached full fitness and starts the match on the bench. Cross is another notable inclusion among the substitutes after recently returning from the injury he suffered at the beginning of the campaign.
Brandon Petersen captains the side, with Dillan Solomons, Zitha Kwinika and Inacio Miguel completing the defensive unit alongside Moloisane.
Chiefs XI: Petersen (C); Solomons, Kwinika, Miguel, Moloisane; Maboe, Ndlovu; Shabalala, Mmodi, Vilakazi; Duba.
Substitutes: Leaner, Frosler, Cross, Mthethwa, Mtasingwa, Chislett, Ighodaro, Baartman, Abrahams.
The match kicks off at 5.40pm at Dobsonville Stadium, with Chiefs looking to maintain their unbeaten start to the 2026/27 Betway Premiership campaign.
