Tensions erupted during President Cyril Ramaphosa’s address in KwaZulu-Natal when angry community members disrupted a government event, forcing police to move in and secure the scene.
The incident unfolded at Esayidi TVET College in Umzimkhulu during a title deeds handover ceremony, where residents began waving placards and voicing their frustrations while the President was speaking.

As the situation intensified, Public Order Police officers were rapidly deployed inside the marquee, forming a barrier between the crowd and the stage.

In a dramatic moment, some disgruntled community members attempted to move towards the President during the handover proceedings. Police acted swiftly, blocking their path and preventing any possible breach.
The operation was led by KwaZulu-Natal Public Order Police commander Colonel Thembinkosi Vilane, whose team managed to contain the situation before it spiralled into chaos.
The motive behind the protest is still emerging, but the incident highlights growing frustration within communities despite ongoing government programmes. No injuries have been reported. This is a developing story.
