A suspected cellphone thief was arrested in Emmerentia on Saturday morning following a swift response from security officers.
At around 07h20, a robbery victim approached a security officer at Wimpy Eatery on Barry Hertzog Avenue, reporting that he had been held at gunpoint and robbed of his cellphone on Komati Street.
The Suburban Control Center was immediately notified, and multiple officers were dispatched to track down the suspect.
By 07h26, officers spotted an individual matching the victim’s description and initiated a pursuit. The suspect was quickly cornered and taken into custody without incident. Upon further investigation, authorities determined that the firearm used in the robbery was a plastic replica.
The stolen cellphone was recovered, and no injuries were reported during the incident.
The suspect remains in custody as the case is handed over for further investigation and possible prosecution.
