Media Statement EASTERN CAPE – The Serious Organised Crime Investigation team of the Hawks, in collaboration with the Tactical Response Team (TRT), Farmers Association, Queenstown Crime Intelligence (CI), Barkley East Mounted Unit, Aliwal North Public Order Policing (POP) and Barkley East K9 Unit, arrested Luyanda Adonisi (45) and Lucky Tiso (63) for possession of unlicensed firearms, ammunition, aggravated robbery and possession of stolen vehicles. Their arrests emanate from the incident of armed robbery of a Fidelity armoured vehicle on 08 July 2024 near Herschel. The reports indicate that during the incident, armed suspects engaged in a shootout, stopping the armoured vehicle and allegedly using explosives to access its contents. The suspects fled with an undisclosed amount of money towards the R58 road. A joint operation was activated immediately and led to the arrest of Adonisi, driving a Toyota Hilux and Tiso, driving a Ford Ranger both suspected to be linked to the robbery. Additionally, there is a possibility that one suspect might be connected to a previous kidnapping case investigated by the Hawks. The two suspects appeared before Sterkspruit Magistrate’s Court on 10 July 2024 and were remanded in custody pending their next court appearance on 20 July 2024. The Hawks investigation remains ongoing. The Provincial Head of the Eastern Cape Hawks Major General Mboiki Obed Ngwenya praised the collaborative effort in apprehending these suspects and acknowledged the role of Community Associations in supporting these operations.
