Media Statement BETHLEHEM – In a remarkable display of teamwork and coordination, members of various police units and other stakeholders successfully foiled a cash-in transit robbery in Bethlehem this morning, leading to the arrest of four suspects. On 23 October 2024 at about 10:00, a branded armoured vehicle arrived at a cash-in-transit depot in Bethlehem. Staff at the depot got suspicious and reported the matter. It was established that the vehicle is not one of the company’s vehicles and the police were informed. With constant communication and with maximum deployment of resources from SAPS units and of the private company itself; augmented by members from TRT, visible policing unit and detectives, the heist was foiled. Four suspects aged between 43 and 52 were arrested. The Provincial Commissioner of the Police in the Free State, Lieutenant General Baile Motswenyane commended efforts of everyone involved. “This successful operation is a testimony of the exceptional collaboration between our different units and other stakeholders. The swift response not only prevented the robbery but also ensured the safety of the community. It is for this exact reason that collaboration and healthy working relationships were established to enhance the cooperation between the police and private sector to curb cash in transit incidents,” she stated. The investigation will be handled by the Directorate for Priority Crime Investigations in the Free State. Ends
