Media Statement WESTERN CAPE – A Cape Town businesswoman and a company were handed suspended sentences by the Bellville Magistrates Court, after they were found guilty on twelve (12) counts of negligently failing to submit Income Tax Returns between the period of 2022 until 2024 to South African Revenue Services (SARS). Fiona Mutongwizo (39) pleaded guilty to all the charges against her and the company. Mutongwizo and the company were sentenced as follows: Accused 1: (Company) Counts 1-12: On each of the counts 1-12, the company is sentenced to a fine of R6000.00 which is wholly suspended for five years. Accused 2: (Fiona Mutongwizo) Counts 1-12: On each of the counts 1-12, Mutongwizo, is sentenced to a fine of R6000.00 or twelve months imprisonment of which R2000 or six months imprisonment has been suspended for a period of five years on each count on condition that she will not commit the same offence during the period of suspension. The total fine of R48, 000.00 is payable as follows: -An amount of R5000.00 immediately upon the date of sentence. -The payment of the balance of R43000, 00 is deferred and to be paid in monthly instalments of R2, 150.00. -Each full instalment is payable on or before the 1st day of each month until the last instalment. -All payments to be made to the Clerk of the Bellville Magistrate’s Court. The payments should be paid fully on or before the 02 January 2027. Ends
