Douw Steyn, the renowned South African businessman and philanthropist, has passed away at the age of 72.
Known for his groundbreaking work in the insurance industry and his visionary real estate projects, Steyn leaves behind a lasting legacy.
Steyn’s career began in the insurance sector, where he founded Budget Insurance in 1992, later transforming it into BGL Group.
Under his leadership, BGL expanded globally and became a major player in the UK insurance market.
He was also behind the creation of Steyn City, a luxurious 900-hectare estate in Johannesburg, which is a symbol of his entrepreneurial vision.
In addition to his business achievements, Steyn was a committed philanthropist.
He donated R320 million to support COVID-19 relief efforts in 2020.
