Media Statement KIMBERLE Y – The Northern Cape South African Police Service, engaged in a radio discussion with listeners of Radio Teemaneng FM in Kimberley on Monday, 10 February 2025. The engagement emanates from social media clips of bullying incidences in schools, not necessarily from the Northern Cape, but as a proactive stance against bullying in schools. The presentation led by Sergeant Timothy Sam from Corporate Communication, Sergeant Neo Noge and Constable Amelia Geweer from the Family Violence, Child Protection and Sexual Offences (FCS) Unit laid the foundation for the SAPS urging listeners and the public at large to be part of policing initiatives in fighting the scourge of bullying at schools. The police in outlining their role and the occurrence of bullying at schools, addressed topics relating to the types of bullying, cyberbullying, legal framework pertaining to bullying, safety hints and strategies pertaining to educating the learners, parents, teachers on bullying and cyberbullying. The presenters cautioned children against criminal behaviour as it will limit their future prospects. The public should be aware that lack of criminal capacity can be proven otherwise if the prosecution presents evidence in Court, that the child had the capacity to appreciate the wrongfulness of their actions. The police will continue through their FCS and Social Crime Prevention Awareness Programs, share information, support and empower victims of bullying. Ends
