The Forest Restoration initiative is being carried out utilizing the Modified Tungya System (MTS) – the place farmers are given entry to degraded forest reserve land for the planting of financial bushes. They are allowed to combine tree planting with chosen meals crops till tree cover closure. The MTS has develop into a legally binding land lease association by which farmers are thought of co-owners of the plantations with the Forestry Commission and are entitled to the MTS plots until the tree reaches cover top. Apart from its environmental advantages, the MTS additionally serves as a further earnings technology exercise for the taking part farmers.

Almost one million seedlings have been planted within the panorama for the reason that venture started in 2020, and the tree survival charge is excessive. Previously, the communities thought indigenous bushes are gradual to develop. Today they see the worth and are comfortable about it.

“I decided to quit my trading job which was not profitable and then join the farmers in the Akwaduro community to help restore the degraded Ayum Forest. I have no regrets taking this decision. I now have two vast lands for my farm, and I also make money from my produce”, recounted Stephen Agyeman, one of many beneficiaries of the forest restoration venture.
