Media Statement GQEBERHA – Following the shocking shooting incident at a KFC drive-through in Koyana Street, Zwide, police have achieved a significant breakthrough. On 13 January 2025, at approximately 23:15, a 35-year-old KFC employee, who is four months pregnant, was shot through the drive-through window by a male suspect. Despite being wounded in the stomach, the victim remains in stable condition, and fortunately, her unborn child was unharmed. An attempted murder case was opened and thoroughly investigated by SAPS Kwazakele. Kwazakele detectives identified the suspect as 45-year-old Male, who was arrested on 20 January 2025 in Kwazakele. The suspect made his first court appearance at the New Brighton Magistrates’ Court on 22 January 2025, with his formal bail application scheduled for 28 January 2025. Nelson Mandela Bay District Commissioner, Major General Vuyisile Ncata, praised the swift and decisive actions of the investigative team. “Crimes against our women and children, along with violent offenses involving firearms, remain a top priority in our fight against crime. This incident deeply disturbed both the community and our police members. The suspect’s arrest is a crucial step in ensuring justice is served,” said Major General Ncata. Ends
