The trial of Senzo Meyiwa, the slain Bafana Bafana star, continues as the cross-examination of Constable Sizwe Zungu, a state witness, is slated to resume in the high court of Pretoria. The proceedings were prematurely adjourned after one defendant fell ill.
Zungu had previously given a testimony stating he was present with all five defendants at a social gathering hosted by his nephew on the day of the incident.
Advocate Sipho Ramosepele, the legal representative for the first and second accused, has resumed his cross-examination, following a decision by Judge Ratha Mokgoatlheng. The judge clarified that there was no other statement from Zungu apart from the one presented in court, dismissing the defence’s claim of having a handwritten and a typed version.
Five individuals are currently facing charges for the 2014 murder of Meyiwa, which occurred in Vosloorus, east of Johannesburg. Ramosepele has been probing Zungu about his service firearm and his alcohol consumption at the Bashotho hostel in Vosloorus during the party.
