Media Statement PARKTOWN – The Provincial Commissioner of the Police in Gauteng Province, Lieutenant General Tommy Mthombeni has commended the Benoni K9 members for arresting two suspected blue light robbers on 05 February 2025. The members were patrolling along R103/R550 towards Heidelberg when they stopped a VW Polo vehicle with four occupants inside. As the members were busy searching the vehicle, two of the occupants ran into the veld. The police recovered police uniform, blue lights and sirens in the boot of the car. The two remaining occupants were arrested and further investigation revealed that the VW Polo vehicle was stolen as per Eldorado Park case opened on November 2024. The tracing of the other two suspects is underway as police investigation continues. Both suspects are expected to appear before Heidelberg Magistartes court soon on charges of impersonating police official and possession of stolen property. On another separate incident, the police in Randburg arrested two suspects for impersonating police officers. It is reported that the two lure their victims into believing that a case docket has been opened against them and that they can make it go away at a certain fee. On this case, the victim requested to meet them at the police station and that is where they were arrested after establishing that they are not real police officers. They will be appearing before Randburg Magistrates Court. Lieutenant General Mthombeni appreciated the arrest and indicated that, police visibility will continue to be heightened on the highways to deal with blue light robberies. The public is encouraged to report to be vigilant at all times and report any suspicious activities on the SAPS Crime Stop Hotline at 08600 10111 or anonymously give tip-offs on MySapsApp. Ends
