PARKTOWN – On Tuesday, 18 March 2025, a team of law enforcement agencies arrested two suspects in connection to a spade of robberies that have been happening on the N3 Highway between Villiers and De Hoek Toll Gate. The suspects will disguise as police officers, using a vehicle fitted with blue lights and sirens to pull over and hijack unsuspecting motorists. The multidisciplinary team including SAPS Counter Intelligence Investigation, Gauteng TRT, SAPS Anti-Gang Unit, Gauteng Traffic Police Airwing, CAP Specialised Operations, Tracker Connect, M&Z Werke Security, Midvaal Peace Officers, Delport Securitas, local community members and farmers operationalised intelligence information and the suspects were caught in the act, hijacking a Toyota Land Cruiser. A high-speed chase ensued and there was a shootout between the suspects and the police. One of the suspects was shot and wounded while the other one was arrested without injuries. Two victims were rescued unharmed after being held hostage inside the suspect vehicle. The team seized two unlicensed firearms with ammunition, military grade signal jammer, SAPS insignia including uniform and blue lights and sirens fitted to the suspects’ vehicle and false registration numbers.
The suspects are linked to over 30 hijackings on the N3 Highway and are expected to appear before Balfour Magistrates’ on 20 March 2025.
