Media Statement BLOEMSPRUIT – A 33-year-old man was successfully convicted for rape and house robbery, resulting in a total sentence of 24 years’ imprisonment. On 17 August 2023, a 16-year-old girl was preparing to leave for school at her residence when she heard disturbances indicating an intruder was ransacking the kitchen and her parents’ bedroom. Upon investigation, she discovered the perpetrator, whom she recognized, approaching her bedroom. The suspect entered her bedroom, threatened her with a knife, stole her money, and proceeded to rape her before fleeing the scene. The victim subsequently informed her parents, and a case of house robbery and rape was registered at the Bloemspruit Police Station. Detective Sergeant Bessie Nthoba of the Mangaung Family Violence, Child Protection, and Sexual Offences (FCS) Unit was assigned to investigate the case, with guidance from National Prosecuting Authority (NPA) Advocate Ronel Botha. Following a thorough investigation, the suspect, Edward Thabiso Botsieloa (33), was identified, traced and apprehended. Botsieloa was subsequently charged and appeared in court, where he was found guilty and sentenced to 12 years’ imprisonment for house robbery and an additional 12 years’ of imprisonment for rape, resulting in a total sentence of 24 years’.
