Media Statement KIMBERLEY – A 40-year-old father was recently sentenced to 25 years’ direct imprisonment by the Galeshewe Regional Court for raping his six-year-old daughter. He was also declared unfit to possess a firearm and his name is to be entered into the National Register for Sex Offenders. Court proceedings revealed how the victim was visiting her grandparents in Promised Land in Kagisho when, on Saturday, 29 April 2017, the victim went to sleep in her grandparents’ room. She woke up during the night when the accused picked her up from the bed and placed her on the floor, and raped her. The victim was too afraid to report the incident and only told her mother on Wednesday, 03 May 2017, when she was experiencing pain. A case was opened, and during the medical examination, the doctor confirmed that the child was raped. The accused fled and a warrant for his arrest was obtained. On Monday, 07 October 2019, information was followed up by the police, and the accused was traced and arrested. Bail was denied, and the accused remained in custody until his conviction and sentencing. SAPS management applauded the sterling work of the investigating officer, Detective Warrant Officer Boats Botha and the Prosecutor, Mr Mosetlho of the National Prosecuting Authority, for ensuring that the perpetrator of Gender Based Violence and Femicide was brought to book.
