GAUTENG – On 23 April 2011, the adult female victim attended ceremony at her neighbour’s house. When she woke up after being drunk, she heard people talking about her. She went to the toilet and found a condom in her private part. That’s when she realized that she was raped. She reported her case rape at SAPS Etwatwa but the suspect was not known. On 20 May 2024, preliminary investigations by Detective Sergeant Koantle Kaizer Mbele of Benoni Family Violence, protection service and sexual offenses Unit revealed the name of the suspect, The accused Fana Korong (39) was traced and found in one of the prisons where he was serving his 5 year sentence for another rape case. On 2025-02-12, the accused Fana Korong was found guilty by the Benoni Magistrate Court and sentenced to 7 years imprisonment, of which 5 years will run concurrently with his previous conviction on another case.
Ekurhuleni District Commissioner Major General Anna Sithole has welcomed the conviction and commended the member’s efforts in squeezing the perpetrators space in Ekurhuleni.
