A young surgeon in Bengaluru has been arrested for allegedly ending the life of his wife, a dermatologist, by giving her repeated doses of anaesthesia under the guise of medical treatment.

The tragic incident, which occurred in April 2025, came to light after forensic experts confirmed the presence of anaesthetic substances in the woman’s body. Following the report, police apprehended 31-year-old Dr. Mahendra Reddy, a surgical resident at the Institute of Gastroenterology Sciences and Organ Transplant, on the premises of Victoria Hospital.

Investigations revealed that Reddy’s wife, 28-year-old Kritika M. Reddy, whom he married in March 2024, had been found unconscious at their Whitefield home. He reportedly rushed her to a nearby hospital, claiming she had collapsed suddenly. Sadly, she did not survive.
Authorities later confirmed that traces of Propofol, a powerful anaesthetic commonly used in surgery, were found in her system. Acting on this evidence, Kritika’s father filed a formal complaint, leading to Reddy’s arrest.
Police say the case has now been reclassified from an unnatural death to a suspected murder, pending further investigation.
