Khalil Ben Youssef believes Khanyisa Mayo is ready to play a key role for Kaizer Chiefs in the final stretch of the Betway Premiership season.
Mayo made a timely statement on Wednesday night, coming off the bench to score in Chiefs’ emphatic 4-1 victory over Magesi FC at the Peter Mokaba Stadium.
The striker powered home a header from a pinpoint cross by Reeve Frosler in the 83rd minute.
The goal sealed a dominant performance and extending Amakhosi’s winning streak to five matches.
For Ben Youssef, Mayo’s goal was long overdue and will boost his confidence.
“He’s been working very hard, but he’s also been unlucky with injuries,” said the Chiefs co-coach.
“In training, he has been performing very well and fighting for his place.”
Mayo’s season has been disrupted by fitness setbacks, limiting his opportunities and rhythm.
Even when he returned to action, the goals didn’t immediately follow — something the technical team has been.
