4 February 2025 – African champions Banyana Banyana will host COSAFA neighbours Lesotho in two international friendly matches to be played in Johannesburg later this month.
Coach Dr Desiree Ellis’ side welcomes Lesotho in the first match on 22 February 2025, and then the two teams meet again a few days later on Tuesday, 25 February. The two games are part of a nine-day camp that the Banyana Banyana coach will run from 17-26 February 2025.
The Sasol-sponsored South African senior women’s national team returns to action for the first time this year after playing in two away friendlies against Jamaica at Catherine Hall Stadium in Montego Bay in December 2024.
All these matches, including the two against Lesotho, are part of the South African senior women’s national team’s preparations for this year’s Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) to be held in Morocco from 5–26 July 2025. Dr Ellis said she will use the opportunity to also widen her pool of players in the buildup to WAFCON.
The Banyana Banyana coach will announce her squad on Thursday, 6 February 2025.
