Media Statement POTCHEFSTROOM – A 43-year-old man is expected to appear before the Rustenburg Magistrates’ Court on Tuesday, 02 April 2024, for attempted murder following his arrest on Wednesday, 27 March 2024. The suspect allegedly strangled and hit his 53-year-old girlfriend with a sharp object at his residential place on Tuesday, 26 March 2024, then fled the scene. Subsequent to the incident, Crime Intelligence kept observation after information was received that the suspect was planning to meet with the victim, but cancelled the meeting. Reports suggest that the suspect arranged another meeting on Wednesday, 27 March 2024. Crime Intelligence identified and observed the suspect, who was consequently arrested at the local mall by Boitekong Detectives. The suspect was taken to his place at Extension 13, where a search led to the discovery of a 9mm pistol and five live rounds of ammunition. Preliminary investigation revealed that the suspect is an ex-convict and currently out on bail and has pending cases of armed robbery as well as murder allegedly committed in Marikana, Boitekong and Northam in Limpopo. The Provincial Police Commissioner, Lieutenant General Sello Kwena, praised all members involved for a sterling job that led to the arrest of a dangerous criminal. Ends
