The African Transformation Movement (ATM) and the uMkhonto weSizwe (MK) party believe that the Government of National Unity (GNU) is on the brink of collapse. The two parties say the disagreements over the passing of the budget for the 2025/2026 financial year in the GNU are clear indicators of the collapse.
The two leaders made the remarks during an ATM rally at the Sisa Dukashe Stadium in Mdantsane in the Eastern Cape. ATM leader Vuyo Zungula says they are engaging their legal department to see whether it’s possible to appeal the VAT increment.
“The GNU has collapsed. You can’t have a party taking the budget of the GNU to court. Basically, it has collapsed; it is just a matter of time for people to realise that it is tantamount to a collapse. We don’t want a collapse. A collapse is not about us. We are not making the government collapse; they themselves are making the government collapse,” says Zungula.

The MK Party’s High Command Member Dali Mpofu agrees with Zungula’s sentiments.
“The so-called GNU was a fake from the beginning, and it was a marriage that was doomed to fail, and that’s why it looks like nine months later, symbolically, it’s going to fail, and the ANC seems to be wondering, not knowing what to do today it’s sleeping with the DA; tomorrow, it’s sleeping with the FF+. They don’t know what to do.”
