Atana Appoints Bongani Mthombeni As New CEO
Atana has appointed Bongani Mthombeni as its chief executive, effective 1 October 2026.
Mthombeni succeeds interim chief executive Vidar Johannessen, who remains with the company as chief financial officer.
She has served as a board member and director of smart mobility and has been part of Atana’s management team since 2021. She has about 18 years of experience in engineering and infrastructure and holds a master’s degree in chemical engineering from the University of Cape Town.
Mthombeni is also vice-president of the South African Road Federation.
Her appointment follows Atana’s 2025 rebrand, when the company became an independent, majority employee-owned firm after separating from Royal HaskoningDHV’s South African operations.
Mthombeni is the partner of former Bafana Bafana defender Matthew Booth. The couple announced in September that they are expecting their first child together.
