Media Statement WESTERN CAPE – Efforts by police to track down two assailants, who were linked to the robbery of a couple at Wilderness near George, ensured that the accused remains behind bars following their first court appearance in the George Magistrates’ court. Investigation into the robbery reveals, on Sunday, 29 September 2024 at about 17:45 the couple returned to their vehicle at Ramskoen Street, Wilderness when two armed men approached them. The men threatened the couple with firearms and demanded their valuables. The suspects took an IPhone, cellphone and wallets. They slashed the tyres of the victim’s vehicle and fled the scene in a Toyota Yaris. On Tuesday, 30 September 2024, George Crime Prevention Unit members and Community Police Forum volunteers followed up information which took them to a house in George. A search of the premises yielded excellent results when the stolen items were recovered. Police also seized two imitation firearms and a zip gun found during the search. Two suspects aged 23 and 38 were arrested in connection with the find. The pair appeared in court on Thursday, 03 October 2024 on charges of robbery, theft out of motor vehicle, possession of stolen property and possession of an unlicensed firearm. They were remanded in custody and the case postponed to 08 October 2024 for a formal bail application. In an unrelated matter, on Wednesday, 02 October 2024 Albertinia police swiftly operationalised information on a man with drugs in his possession. A search for the man ensued when they found him along the N2 highway. The members confiscated 121 mandrax tablets and 275 grams of dagga found in his possession. He was subsequently arrested on a charge of dealing in drugs. The 28-year-old suspect will appear in court once charged. Ends
