Authorities are calling on members of the public to come forward with any information that could help trace a group of armed robbers who broke into the Mhala traffic department and made off with a significant amount of cash.
The robbery occurred around midnight on Wednesday. According to initial reports, three security officers were on duty when six armed men ambushed them. The attackers were reportedly carrying pistols and a rifle.
The intruders held the security guards at gunpoint and forced them into one of the offices before breaking through two burglar doors leading to the main area of the building. They then made their way to a secure room, where they damaged a safe and took an undisclosed amount of money.
Police have confirmed that no injuries were reported during the incident, but the robbery has caused concern in the area due to its brazen nature.
Investigators are urging anyone with knowledge of the suspects or their whereabouts to come forward. All information will be treated confidentially, and callers may remain anonymous.
This incident comes as part of a troubling trend in the region. In a similar case in 2022, heavily armed assailants staged a calculated attack on a police station, disarming officers and making off with several firearms and ammunition.
Police are intensifying efforts to prevent such attacks and ensure that those responsible are brought to justice.
