WESTERN CAPE – An intelligence driven operation conducted by the Anti-Gang Unit (AGU) to quell ongoing gang violence in the area, proved successful when the members recovered and seized five firearms at a residence situated in Elsies River. Information reveals that on Friday, 22 November 2024 at 21:36 the members operationalised intelligence which led the team to a residence in Zenith Way, Matroosfontein where they ensued with a search of the premises during which they discovered the firearms in the backyard. This discovery led to the arrest of the 26-year old male occupant of the residence. A 45 calibre revolver, two 38 Special Taurus pistols, a Norinco Star pistol, a 7.65 pistol and an undisclosed amount of different calibre rounds of ammunition as well as two magazines were seized as evidence. The suspect faces charges related to the illegal possession of prohibited firearm, illegal possession of firearm and ammunition and is scheduled to appear in the Bishop Lavis Magistrates’ court, once charged.
