Media Statement WESTERN CAPE – Efforts to rid communities in the Western Cape of firearms led to the arrest of a suspect in Manenberg on Friday, 19 July 2024. Members of the Anti-Gang Unit deployed in the Manenberg area to combat gang violence and ongoing shooting responded to information of a firearm at a premise in Susan court, Heideveld. Upon searching the house the members found a 9mm pistol with ammunition. A 30-year-old man was arrested for the illegal possession of a firearm and ammunition. Further investigations revealed that the suspect is also wanted on a murder case in Manenberg. Once charged the suspect will appear in the Athlone Magistrates’ court on the mentioned charges. In an unrelated intervention members of Citrusdal SAPS searched a premises in Eike Street, Citrusdal and confiscated a 9mm pistol when they received information about a firearm at the premises. An adult male was arrested for the illegal possession of a firearm.
The suspect is due to make a court appearance in the Citrusdal Magistrates’ court once he has been charge.
