Media Statement CAPE TOWN – On Thursday 19 December 2024 at 15:45, members attached to the Anti-Gang Unit were deployed in Beacon Valley in a bid to quell the ongoing gang violence between local gangs. A community member flagged unit members down and gave information of a known person who hid a firearm in a vehicle at a premises in Korfbal Street, Beacon Valley. The members immediately approached the premises, searching the vehicle upon which they found a CZ 9mm Short firearm with 44 x 9mm rounds of ammunition under the passenger seat of the vehicle. The 26-year-old suspect was traced and arrested for possession of an unlicensed firearm and ammunition. The suspect will appear in the Mitchell’s Plain Magistrate’s Court on Monday, 23 December 2024, for charges of possession of an unlicensed firearm and ammunition. In an unrelated matter, on Friday, 20 December 2024 at approximately 12:00, members attached to the Provincial Anti-Economic Crime Task Team and Provincial Counterfeit and Illicit Goods Policing Team conducted an intelligence driven operation in the Delft area when they received information of a firearm used in an attempted murder, hidden at a premises in Fairhaven Voorbrug Delft. They immediately operationalised the information and searched the premises. The members found and confiscated a CZ 7.65 firearm, an assortment of 9mm,.22, shotgun and rifle rounds of ammunition, 68 sachets cocaine, six sachets tik and two cellular telephones, The four persons found on the premises, including two females aged 18 and 25 and two males aged 23 and 27, were arrested for possession of an unlicensed firearm and ammunition and the possession of drugs. Further investigations indicate that the firearm confiscated was reported as stolen in Naledi. The suspects are due to appear in the Bellville Magistrates’ court on Monday, 23 December 2024 on the mentioned charges. Ends
