Media Statement WESTERN CAPE: The Western Cape Provincial Commissioner, Lt Gen (Adv.) Thembisile Patekile lauded the tenacity of the investigating team attached to the Anti-Gang unit who worked tirelessly to ensure a breakthrough in a double murder and attempted murder which were committed in Athlone on Thursday 03 October 2024. According to reports, three armed men fired several gunshots at the residents in front of a house in Nerina Close, Athlone, fatally shot and killed two males while another male was admitted to hospital with a gunshot wound. The investigation team went the proverbial extra mile, pursuing all the available information in order to effect an arrest. Their persistence were rewarded when they arrested a 17-year-old male on Wednesday 09 October 2024. The suspect will make his court appearance in the Athlone Magistrates’ court today, Friday 11 October 2024 on two counts of murder and attempted murder.
